What's the difference between art classes and art therapy?

As an art teacher, my purpose is to inspire and teach students new skills, but as an art therapist, my purpose is to guide clients in a process of conscious awareness, release, insight, healing and growth.

Arts Psychotherapy is similar to counselling. The goal of art therapy is to utilise the creative process to help you explore self-expression and, in doing so, find new ways to gain personal insight and develop new coping skills, such as self-regulation.

The art process is used to explore emotions, develop self-awareness and acceptance, cope with stress, boost self-esteem and confidence, and work on social skills.

We use a wide variety of art mediums, including collage, clay, sand play and natural items. Creative and expressive processes such as music, drama, storytelling and movement may also be explored.

The art therapist is client-led. A client's process is always welcomed and supported, never judged or interpreted,

You do not need to have artistic ability or special talent to participate in art therapy, and people of all ages benefit, including children, teens, and adults.

I'm so excited to offer your child the chance to enjoy the relaxing and fun benefits of creative expression whilst learning new skills. Friday and Saturday classes and children's school holiday programs are designed to reconnect your child to nature, encouraging children to be present and engage with the natural world around them.

We may explore a magical creek garden through outdoor exploration, find inspiration, and then use our imagination to create eco-art that celebrates self-expression through authentic and organic artistic creations!
